He was one of the biggest rappers of his generation. And even in death, The Notorious B.I.G still has a massive influence in the world of hip-hop, with his name thrown all over the place with the respect he deserves.
His was the era of rap gangsterism. and while many would argue that the era has long gone, it is easy to point out that much of that era is still with us – only, just not as pronounced, But that’s by the way.
The point is that The Notorious B.I.G is still very much alive in the spirit of the culture and hip-hop honchos occasionally honour him the way they see fit. Soft drink brand Pepsi was the latest to honour the rapper on what has been described as the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.
Pepsi is joining the global campaign which would also bring together some local acts, including the Cape Town rapper YoungtaCPT. As part of the campaign, fans get to receive giveaways, including Pepsi cans designed to honour the lifestyle of the late icon.
The reception so far has been nothing short of delightful, with fans stating that it brings to life the tumultuous 90s once again – before the internet became mainstream and people could stream music.
