A Kimberly Doctor Owing Sars R17M Enters A Guilty Plea For Not Turning In Tax Returns

The specialist commercial crimes court in Kimberley has convicted a physician of tax evasion. Dr. Fabian Royston Tun was found guilty on eight counts of failing to file personal income tax reports and 42 counts of failing to file VAT filings by the court on Monday. At Dr. FR Tun’s Practice, Tun was a lone proprietor and practicing medicine.

He was registered with the SA Revenue Service (Sars) for both VAT and personal income tax. According to the state, the accused amassed R17 million in income between 2015 and 2022. The accused did not file personal income tax returns for the tax years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, according to Mojalefa Senokoatsane, a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority.

Additionally, he claimed that the accused neglected to file VAT filings with Sars for the tax years August 2016 through June 2023. Following investigations by the NPA tax section, the Hawks, Sars, and the accused, the accused was taken into custody. After entering a guilty plea to every allegation that the prosecution had brought against him, the accused—who was represented by counsel—was found guilty.

Sentencing in this case has been delayed until July 30.
