Ayra Starr And Tyla Nearly Tied For The Most Monthly Spotify Listeners

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Ayra Starr, has been steadily rising as her music continues to garner her praise and recognition from all over the world.

With a record-breaking 31,103,217 million listeners (as of May 28, 2024), the Grammy-nominated singer has achieved a remarkable feat: she is now the second African artist with the most Spotify listeners. This puts her closer to the African record held by South African international sensation Tyla, who has 31,966,907 monthly listeners (as of May 28, 2024). Only a few weeks ago, Ayra Starr achieved a new milestone when she overtook Rema’s record of 24.57 million monthly listeners.

Ayra Starr is now regarded as one of Nigeria’s and Africa’s most popular performers, having shot to fame in 2021 with her self-titled debut EP. Her widely popular song “Rush,” for which she was nominated for a Grammy in 2023, became the most viewed music video by a Nigerian female artist and earned her a Diamond certification in France.

Ayra Starr’s celebrity is evident from the fact that she was just nominated in three categories for the 2024 BET Awards, including Best African Artist and Best New Artist. The year I Turned 21—her second album—will be released by the multi-award winning singer on May 31, 2024.

Along with Asake, Seyi Vibez, Anitta, Coco Jones, Giveon, and her younger brother Milar, appear as guest features on the upcoming album.
