Culinary Battles Begin As Chef Zola Dishes On MasterChef South Africa Season 5

MasterChef South Africa Season 5 is expected to wow audiences with its incredible skill and gripping kitchen drama as the culinary flames burn brightly. With 20 new contenders from all around South Africa vying for the coveted title and a grand prize of R1 million, the new season of SABC3, which premieres on Saturday, July 13 at 19:30, promises to provide high-stakes cooking and delicious food.

The culinary competitions on the show are now held in an Atlantic Studios kitchen and pantry that was specially constructed instead of at Cape Town Harbour. This localized Banijay format is being made available to a wider South African audience by Primedia Studios in partnership with SABC3. The stage is set for a season full of culinary wonders and surprises, with shiny Beko appliances and a fully stocked Pick & Pay pantry.

Beko Appliances is also sponsoring South African television for the first time with the fifth season. Wüsthoff knives and Mervyn Gers’ custom tableware will be on display in addition to Beko and @home.

Amidst a recent all-day set visit, the MasterChef SA competitors were observed crafting delectable meals for the three distinguished judges, Katlego Mlambo, Zola Nene, and Justine Drake. Producing, crewing, and cameramen were busy capturing every moment and soundbite in the large two-studio complex, which also contains a lounge area and cook-off workstations. Hours of film were condensed into 45-minute episodes.

The 20 competitors will confront formidable obstacles behind the pots and pans, from baking and basting to seafood and curries. Stressful invention contests and mystery box tasks are part of the tournament, which occasionally includes world-class regional chefs.

Katlego Mlambo says,

“The contestants are only as good as their last plate, and anything can happen. It’s a constant race against the clock, and one flop could cost them their MasterChef apron.”
