Changes and expectations continue in post-election South Africa, with Cyril Xaba, a former ANC member of Parliament, sworn in as the councillor of eThekwini Municipality.
Support for Xaba has been pretty strong and speculations are rife that besides being sworn in sworn in as the councillor of eThekwini Municipality, he is on course to be the municipality’s first citizen.
Being elected a councillor is the first step to becoming a mayor, and he has already crossed that hurdle, making the path less crooked for ascension to higher office.
After that comes the second step, which is the council giving the go-ahead for Xaba to take over the ANC’s seat in the executive committee. This step is especially critical and sets him on course to being appointed to the top job.
Whether he would eventually scale all hurdles and make it to the top as mayor of the municipality is unclear. But with the level of support he has been receiving so far, a lot appears to be in his favour, and he just might scale it all to the top as mayor of the municipality.
