Claims of exploitation are stuff we hear every other day and it is not isolated to one industry or even one country. It is all over the place, all over the world. For South Africans though, their attention is focused on the local scene at the moment.
In this scene, some of the prominent figures in the entertainment industry stand accused of exploiting others. One of the key names here is DJ Maphorisa.
The amapiano produced caused a stir recently when he announced during an Instagram Live with his fans that he takes the copyright for any music produced using his studio equipment whether his voice is in the song or not.
He was called out for this by his compatriots, most notably Podcast and Chill host MacG.
Another celeb who stands accused of exploiting others is film mogul Connie Ferguson. The Ferguson Film boss, who lost her husband three years ago, was accused by actresses she had worked with
Actress Vatiswa Ndara had written a lengthy letter to the authorities, accusing Connie of exploiting her when she worked with Ferguson Films. Similar claims of exploitation were made against the brand by Keke Mphuthi.
Incidentally, the late Zahara had accused DJ Sbu and TK Nciza of exploiting her before her tragic death, allegations they both denied.
