Dr John Hlophe Shared Reason For Choosing the MK party over the EFF

Dr John Hlophe opens up about choosing the MK Party over the EFF.

Dr John Hlophe, the recently sworn in parliamentary leader of the opposition has opened up about choosing Zuma’s MK party over Malema’s EFF.

According to a report by IOL, Malema first had the idea of Hlophe as an MP of the EFF when the sixth Parliament instituted impeachment proceedings in November last year. After Hlophe was impeached, Malema wrote in February 2024,

“We can assure you that you will never go to bed hungry and this is inspired by the battle cry ‘An Injury To One Is An Injury to All’. We love you JP Hlophe, freedom is coming on 29 May 2024.”

However, on Tuesday, Dr John Hlophe was announced as the leader of the MKP in Parliament. His swearing in as leader of the Umkhonto weSizwe party comes less than four months after he was impeached following a vote by Parliament.

Hlophe spoke about it saying that he was grateful to Malema and the EFF. According to him, the MKP and the EFF are both Pan Africanist parties who aren’t far apart in ideology. He also revealed that Julius Malema was the only politician who visited him after he was impeached.

‘’That is where I extended his friendship and his sincerity,’’ said Hlophe. He also recalled that while he was tempted to join the EFF, he choose the MKP, not for a leadership position, but for other personal issues.

‘’The MKP has respect for the Kingdom and the monarch in KwaZulu-Natal where I come from. I believe in that kingdom, monarch and the role the Zulu kingdom played,” Hlophe said.
