Helen Zille Throws Jab At Fikile, Amusing South Africans

Political opponents Helen Zille and Fikile Mbalula are taking it to the mat following what seemed to be a major miscommunication regarding “Clause 24” of the provisions of the signed agreement by the Government of National Unity (GNU).

Regarding what he thought would happen in a deadlock debate among GNU members, the DA Federal Chair chastised the ANC Secretary-General. Mbalula invited lesser parties to join the GNU and potentially circumvent their political influence, but Zille clapped back. The 73-year-old claims that the ANC, DA, and IFP were the three founding members of the GNU, and that they all needed to come to an agreement, or at least 60% of one another.

Meanwhile, Mbalula asserted that the GNU would “welcome” interested parties. During two distinct appearances on Clement Manyathela’s Face The Nation program on SABC News, Fikile Mbalula’s comprehension of the GNU’s terms was scrutinized. Social media users in South Africa had a field day making fun of Fikile Mbalula on the X app for supposedly not understanding a paper he had signed.

Some found humor in Helen Zille’s no-nonsense style.

Fikile Mbalula is accustomed to having Twitter (now X) feuds with his political allies. “Bra Fiks” has quarrelled with Julius Malema, Carl Niehaus, Mmusi Maimane, Lindiwe Sisulu, and MK Party leader Jacob Zuma, among others.
