Internet Girl Is Apple Music’s Latest Up Next South Africa Artist

Cape Town-based band Internet Girl shines as Apple Music’s Up Next South Africa artist.

We must confess that we are proud of all the artists and bands putting South Africa on the map. According to a new report by Hype Magazine, Cape Town-based punk hyperpop trio, Internet Girl, has been named the next recipient of Apple Music’s Up Next program for June.

According to the publication, the local version of their global emerging artist platform was launched early in 2021 and has showcased some of the best talents out of SA. Speaking to Apple Music, the band shared their excitement.

“It’s insane; we’re super stoked to be on Up Next! It’s been a crazy year so far, seeing some dreams come to fruition—now this is pretty cool. But we’re greedy; we want more! This is just the beginning for Internet Girl.”

The publication writes that the band was formed in 2019, and consists of members Ntsika Bungane, Matthew Burgess and James Smith. They have since gained attention from music lovers and carved out a niche for themselves as a mixed-raced boy band and even earned a growing fanbase.

Internet Girl released their EP “ROLE MODEL” and it is currently available on Apple Music. Hype writes that the new project serves as an “almost reintroduction of the trio as they pivot to embrace a new sound and ethos through elements of punk and rap.”

With their new feature on Apple Music’s Up Next!, The band joins a roster of incredible talents including Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, Tems, Koffee, Megan Thee Stallion, Mr Eazi, Stefflon Don, and more.
