Jay-Z Stuns At The Tony Awards Alongside Alicia Keys But Avoids The Stage

Unexpectedly, Jay-Z showed up on Sunday night in New York City for the 2024 Tony Awards. With Alicia Keys, he performed his popular song Empire State of Mind. The two teamed up to promote Keys’ jukebox musical Hell’s Kitchen, which features her songs. Jay-Z’s appearance wasn’t as spectacular as fans had hoped, despite their partnership, according to Daily Mail.

Jay-Z performed via video from outside the arena, as opposed to taking the stage. Many in the audience were both astonished and amused by this. Hell’s Kitchen, which received 13 Tony Award nominations, is based on the early life and songs of Alicia Keys. Empire State of Mind, which was featured in the musical, increased excitement for the occasion.

Prior to the show, Alicia Keys strolled the red carpet alongside her parents and her three sons, Genesis, 9, Kasseem Jr., 17, and Egypt, 13. Wearing matching Gucci blazer and pants with a brown design, she looked striking. According to the Washington Post, Jay-Z wore a white shirt, baggy dark jeans, and a Louis Vuitton blazer.

The David H. Koch Theatre’s stage was too small for the crowd to see Jay-Z perform live, as Variety’s co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh clarified on social media. Dancers performed choreography on stage while Jay-Z and Alicia were shown on a big screen behind them. Keys energized the audience even if he wasn’t inside the main theater.
