Joeboy Calls Out The Federal Government For Choosing To Alter The National Anthem Rather Than Address The Crippling Hardship

The federal government has come under fire from popular musician Joseph Akinfenwaa Donus, better known by his stage name Joeboy, for choosing to alter the National Anthem over addressing the many issues the nation faces. On Wednesday, May 29, President Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law, bringing back the previous national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

Joeboy reacted via his X account by questioning why changing the National Anthem was given more importance than urgent real-life problems plaguing the masses.

President Tinubu signed the bill on Wednesday. This was revealed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to lawmakers during the present National Assembly joint session. The law aims to replace the existing song with the one that was first established on October 1, 1960, to mark the country’s independence, but was altered by the military administration of Olusegun Obasanjo in 1978.

The bill was passed last Thursday by the House of Representatives and by the Senate on Tuesday. During the joint session, the Senate President encouraged Nigerians to become acquainted with the recently adopted national song. As soon as President Tinubu entered the House chamber for the joint session, the new national anthem was sung.

Following that, the Senate President advised Nigerians to embrace brotherly love and encourage it among themselves.
