Kay Bikitsha Realises Acting Dream Through Brenda Ngxoli

Budding talent Kay Bikitsha attributes her burgeoning success to the influence of veteran actor Brenda Ngxoli, whose dedication to pushing boundaries in acting has inspired Bikitsha’s artistic journey. Over the past two years, Bikitsha’s performances have graced the screens in popular shows such as The Queen, Umbuso, and Gqeberha: The Empire. Hailing from the Eastern Cape, the 24-year-old actress admired Ngxoli and aspired to emulate her fearlessness and artistry. Ngxoli gained widespread acclaim in the 2000s by portraying Vuyo Radebe in the beloved drama Home Affairs. This role catapulted her to recognition at the SA Film and Television Awards (Saftas) and the International Emmy Awards. Bikitsha’s passion for storytelling and performance bloomed in grade 3, where she eagerly participated in school plays and community theatre. These activities were made possible by the unwavering support of her late mother, who was the first to believe in her acting talent.

Bikitsha said,

“As young as I can remember, watching Brenda made me believe that I could pull off a very complex character. She’s not afraid to push the boundaries with her acting and what it takes to live in a character’s head. Young as I was – I knew Brenda was remarkable,”

“I started my passion for acting when my mother was still alive. She was the one who was pushing it the most. I remember wanting to sign up for ballet, only for the teacher to refuse to let me eat my chocolate. I went home and told my mom, the following day she signed me up for drama classes,”

“At first I didn’t understand what drama was until I put it up to myself to find out and research how to structure a storyline and formulate a script. In the process, I fell in love with the art of directing.”

When not acting, Bikitsha focuses on philanthropy, especially for orphaned children.
