South African singer Makhadzi is back in her winning season with a new award to her name. The “Ghanama” hitmaker was recently declared the winner of the BET Award for Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act.
In case you missed it, she recently posted a picture of herself in Los Angeles and announced that she was in the United States to attend the BET Awards. Many South Africans wished her the best in the country.
It turned out that their wishes were not in vain after all, as the singer ended up winning – her first time to snag the BET Award in the Best New International Act category.
Beyond that, with this win, she joins joins Sjava who had won a BET award years earlier. Unlike Makhadzi, though, Sjava decided to amplify his roots at the award by wearing animal skin to the event. For her part, Makhadzi opted for something more global. But that’s by the way.
With her BET win, Makhadzi’s status as a singer has somewhat grown and will likely continue to grow if she keeps up with the tempo of good music releases.
In the interim, one can only congratulate her and wish her the best going forward. No qualms.
