Award ceremonies are not just that; they are also avenues for people to meet those who are more accomplished in their fields or industries, as we see again and again. This is the reality in almost every country out there.
The latest example comes from the recently concluded BET Awards in the United States, where South African singer Makhadzi was honoured with an award.
Beyond picking the award, though, the “Ghanama” hitmaker had the opportunity to interact with other people, most noticeably the Senegales-American singer Akon.
Their meeting was captured and shared online, with some South Africans making a joke about it all. One local joked that Akon was definitely from Limpopo. Another wondered if the two would end up releasing a joint jam, and when.
Of course, a collaborative tune between them will boost Makhadzi’s career. but working with a musician of Akon’s standing doesn’t seem to be as simple as it might appear. But that’s by the way.
