Protesters For MK Party Gather in PMB Before High Court March Over Election Vote-rigging Claims

Protesters for Jacob Zuma’s MK party gather in Pietermaritzburg before high court march over claims of election vote-rigging.

A new report by SowetanLIVE reveals that around 200 MK Party members gathered in the Pietermaritzburg inner city waiting to begin a march to the high court today, Wednesday 26 June. The publication writes that the march is in support of the party’s application to the electoral court to declare the elections “not free and fair.” They have also made claims that there were “massive acts of fraud, rigging and manipulation of the results.”

The MK party reportedly accused the Electoral Commission of South Africa of vote-rigging when the election results were released. This led the party to boycott the first sitting of the National Assembly where newly elected MPs were sworn in.

However, 58 MPs from the party were sworn in on Tuesday. SowetanLIVE reports that among them was impeached former Western Cape judge president John Hlophe, former EFF member Andile Mngxitama, former co-operative governance minister Des van Rooyen and Zuma’s daughter Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla.

Former president Jacob Zuma announced the forming of the party in December last year. Following their many campaigns this year, the party exceeded expectations and performed very well in the May 29 polls.
