South African Hip-Hop Fans Pick Stogie T As A Better Lyricist Than Common, Nas and Talib Kweli

He is one man who is immensely confident in his abilities as a lyricist. Although he is not globally celebrated, that has not stopped Stogie T from seeing himself as the star he is, on the same pedestal as some of the top voices in America and even on a higher plane in some instances.

In this verdict about himself, he has the support of many of his compatriots back home, as evidenced by a poll by South African Hip Hop Mag.

The media outlet conducted a WhatsApp poll to find out from fans who the best lyricist is among a stipulated list of stars of American and South African provenances. Below is the outcome of the voting among fans:

  • J Cole: 11,700 votes
  • Kendrick Lamar: 6,600 votes
  • Nasty C: 10,600 votes
  • Stogie T: 2,700 votes
  • Bas: 2,600 votes
  • Common: 1,300 votes

While Stogie T might not have had the highest votes in the poll, the magazine pointed out that he was the lyricist that provoked the most discussion among those who took the poll, indicating significantly more power, appeal and influence among the demographic of those who responded.

Of course, the result would likely have been different if a large audience were polled and on a platform open to people beyond South Africa.
