Through time, we see people show their love love and relationship with others, from places to people and things. This reality was evident again recently via Springboks; stars Edwill van der Merwe and Jordan Hendrikse.
If you are a fan of either or both of them – or just happen to be a big fan of the South African national rugby team and have been paying attention, you probably already know that both of them have wrist messages.
Edwill van der Merwe’s wrist message simply reads “7608” – without the quotes. What could that possibly mean? Well, the rugby ace was more than happy to answer the question to assuage the curiosity of South Africans.
According to him, the number represents the area code of Kylemore, the small town just outside Stellenbosch, where he came from. While the town might be small, it has a close affinity for rugby and its inhabitants were more than happy to celebrate his move to the national rugby team
For Jordan Hendrikse, the wrist message simply reads “DAD” and stands as a memorial to his father who died a year ago. Until his father’s death, he was a great pillar of support in his son’s rugby adventure. Sadly, he is no longer around.
