He might not be the most visible figure in South African music, but Stogie T is one man who knows the stuff he is made of and is not afraid to assert his power and appeal among the crop of global musicians.
This reality played out recently during an interview with SlikourOnLife when he poured out his thoughts on several subjects, including South African music and some global names.
Among others, he mentioned J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and even Drake, acknowledging their gifts as musicians and even their impact on the game. He, however, made it clear that there is nothing special about Kendrick Lamar.
In his words, “They are not Lupe, Lupe is special, ASAP Rocky is special, Jay-Z is special, Nas is special. Kendrick is alright, Cole is alright. Kendrick is not better than me.” Those are certainly the words of a man who knows the stuff he is made of and suffers no inferiority complex, or so some of his fans are going.
Indeed, it must be said that Stogie T is one of the finest lyricists in the game back home. Given his massive confidence about his gift, we think it would be great to see him Verzuz rap battles with the likes of Lamar.
