SZA Shares Opinion On “SOS” Position On Apple Music’s Greatest Albums List

SZA is known for her self-criticism, which contributes to her reputation as a great writer. Her ability to express insecurities through her lyrics has led to her first two albums being considered modern classics. On the other hand, SZA is confident about her music and knows she is one of the best R&B artists today. When SZA’s album “SOS” entered Apple Music’s list of the greatest albums of all time, she was flattered but also expressed that she expected a higher ranking. She humorously expressed her feelings on Instagram, stating, “72nd is so disrespectful.”

SZA’s remarks elicited a range of reactions from fans. Some criticized the singer for what they perceived as ingratitude despite her outperforming several notable artists. Conversely, many lauded her self-assurance and hailed “SOS” as one of the greatest albums ever. It’s worth noting that SZA dedicated several years to creating “SOS,” which undoubtedly contributes to her immense pride in the work. In an interview with Variety, she expressed her disbelief at the positive reception, stating, “I never thought in a million years that people would like it.” She also revealed that the support she received during the album’s creation was crucial to her mental well-being, adding, “Everybody came down to make sure I didn’t lose my mind if the album went bad once it came out. And now we’re just hanging out because it didn’t go badly.”

The success of SOS was remarkable. It received nine Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, and won the Best Progressive R&B Album award. The album produced a number-one single with “Kill Bill” and a number-two single with “Snooze.” Notably, “Snooze” was the only song to chart on Billboard for 2023. SOS was also ranked 351 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums ever. Given these recognitions, SZA may have felt that Apple’s placement was underrated.
