Zuma’s MK Party Makes Impressive Run In SA Elections 2024

Thursday, May 29 was a day of surprises nationally as former president Jacob Zuma’s Umkhonto Wesizwe party (MK), bested the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) nationally, scaling the 500k  votes hurdle.

It was a resounding success that many had not expected, especially given the current infighting within the party, which had led to the suspension of party founder Jabulani Khumalo and other members.

But from the results during the first round of counting, it was obvious that the conflict within the party had not impacted its numbers seriously. On the contrary, the party managed to pull off an impressive coup of sorts, scoring 510,760 votes, with the trailing in fourth position with 486,422 votes.

What makes this win especially impressive is that the MK party is not exactly one of the oldest in the country. Still, it had an impressive run and might continue on the same tempo.

This reality contrasted heavily with the ruling ANC, which struggled in multiple areas, including KwaZulu-Natal.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how far the MK party continues its run and if it will be able to slich power nationally and make its way to Luthuli House. The coming days should reveal a lot. Stay tuned if you please.
